Bettison's Folly, Grade II listed folly tower in Hornsea, England

The brick tower stands near Newbegin Street, featuring a cranked flagpole and traditional construction methods with locally produced treacle bricks from the 19th century.

William Bettison, a Hull brewer, constructed this tower between 1829 and 1853 in his garden for communicating with his household staff about dinner preparations.

The structure gained recognition in 2011 when the Huffington Post included it among their selection of notable folly architecture examples worldwide.

Visitors can observe the exterior of the tower from the surrounding housing estate, though internal access remains restricted throughout the year.

During World War II, the tower functioned as an air raid lookout point with a warning siren that continued operating until the 1950s.
