Dunbeath Castle, Medieval castle on a rocky peninsula in Highland, Scotland

The fortified tower of Dunbeath Castle stands on the east coast of Caithness, featuring a symmetrical northern front and stone construction overlooking the Moray Firth.

Originally recorded in 1428 under the Earl of Caithness, the castle underwent major transformations in 1620 when the Sinclair clan constructed a four-storey tower house.

The castle represents traditional Scottish architectural elements, incorporating defensive features and the Scots Baronial style common to Highland fortifications of its period.

While the castle serves as a private residence, visitors can schedule appointments to explore the gardens, which stretch along the dramatic tree-lined entrance drive.

During the Wars of the Three Kingdoms in 1650, Lady Sinclair defended the castle against Royalist forces before surrendering, with control restored later that year.
