Thomas Hardy's Cottage
Thomas Hardy's Cottage, House museum in Higher Bockhampton, England.
The 1800 cottage features traditional cob walls and a thatched roof, representing rural architecture from the early nineteenth century in Dorset.
Thomas Hardy wrote two of his major works, Under the Greenwood Tree and Far from the Madding Crowd, while living in this cottage until 1874.
The interior contains period furniture arrangements that demonstrate the living conditions of nineteenth-century rural English writers and craftsmen.
A visitor center opened in 2014 near the cottage provides interpretation materials and access to walking trails through Thorncombe Wood.
The cottage remains in its original location at the edge of Thorncombe Wood, three miles from Max Gate where Hardy later resided.
