St Catherine's Chapel, Lydiate
St Catherine's Chapel, Lydiate, Medieval chapel in Lydiate, England
St Catherine's Chapel features remaining stone walls with Gothic window openings and a tower that displays architectural elements from the late medieval period.
The Ireland family constructed this private chapel around 1500, and its religious use ceased following Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1550.
The chapel grounds host annual outdoor Shakespeare performances, bringing together residents and visitors for theatrical entertainment in a historical setting.
Located adjacent to the Scotch Piper Inn on the A5147, the chapel site maintains a cemetery that operated until the late nineteenth century.
Summer markets at the chapel grounds offer local products, activities, and entertainment, transforming this medieval structure into a contemporary community gathering space.
