St Crispin's School

St Crispin's School is a secondary school located on London Road outside Wokingham town centre, occupying a large campus with multiple buildings. The institution was originally designed as a demonstration project for prefabricated construction methods and features a central arrangement of teaching spaces.

The school was founded in 1953 as a pilot project for industrial building methods to reduce construction costs for educational facilities after World War II. The site has an earlier wartime connection, as it previously served as an emergency landing field for aircraft.

The school building contains several artistic elements, including restored murals representing seasonal themes and panels created by notable British artists.

The campus is relatively large and easy to navigate with walkways, especially if you get your bearings first. Keep in mind that this is an active school, so access to certain areas is limited during teaching hours.

The building still bears a visible mark from a German aerial torpedo strike from the war period. This scar from when the site served as an emergency airfield remains visible evidence of that earlier military use.
