Wellington Monument, Triangular obelisk in Somerset, England

The Wellington Monument reaches 175 feet in height and features a triangular design constructed with local Calcareous Grit stone near Blackdown Hills.

The construction of this commemorative structure began in 1817 to honor the Duke of Wellington's victory at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

The monument represents British military achievements through its architectural design, incorporating Egyptian-influenced elements and traditional Somerset building methods.

The National Trust manages the monument, which reopened in August 2021 following extensive restoration work to address structural concerns.

This structure holds the distinction of being the tallest three-sided obelisk in existence, with a cannon placed at its base by the Wellington Rotary Club.
