Hall, Bishop's Tawton, English country house in Bishop's Tawton, England

Hall in Bishop's Tawton is a country house in Devon set on a south-facing slope above the River Taw. The Grade II listed property features a neo-Jacobean mansion built in the 1880s, surrounded by state rooms, working yards, service buildings, and formal walled gardens.

The estate appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as a possession of the Bishop of Exeter before passing to Simon de Hall through his legal work. The Chichester family took over in the 14th century when Thomasine de Hall married Richard Chichester, and they have held it ever since.

The private chapel holds medieval woodwork salvaged from Barnstaple's Old Guildhall, incorporated when the house was rebuilt in the 1880s. This choice reflects how the owners connected their home to the broader history of the nearby town.

The property offers wheelchair access and has parking available for visitors. The estate spreads across multiple connected structures, so allow time to walk through the various rooms and grounds to see everything.

The Chichester family has controlled this property for around 700 years, beginning from a single marriage in the 14th century. This remarkably long continuous ownership is rare among estates of this region.
