St German's Church

St German's Church is a Gothic Revival church building in Adamsdown, Cardiff, constructed starting in 1881. The structure features pointed arches, ribbed vaults, external buttresses, and a slate-covered tower with a bell chamber.

The building was founded in 1881 on land donated by Lord Tredegar at the corner of Star and Metal Streets. It became a Grade I listed structure and has shaped the neighborhood's architecture since then.

The church houses a metal sculpture by Frank Rope from 1965 showing the Calvary scene. It replaced an earlier stone version that was destroyed in 1941.

The building is open to visitors who can explore its architectural features, including the William Hill and Sons organ. Regular worship services take place, and visitors should allow time to observe the interior details carefully.

The building is the only one in Cardiff with external buttresses that support the roof structure using specialized engineering methods. This distinctive construction is uncommon and makes the church an example of specialized Gothic building techniques.
