Church of St Peter and St Paul, Medieval parish church in Wantage, England

The Church of St Peter and St Paul is a large stone building with a central tower, extended transepts, and a fifteen-century roof framed by carved supporting brackets. Inside, aisles and side chapels create a spacious layout with multiple zones for worship and reflection.

The building's earliest parts date back to the thirteenth century, with major construction work in the fifteen-hundreds adding chapels and side aisles that shaped its current form. This period of expansion left the strongest mark on the structure as it stands today.

The chancel holds carved wooden seats from the 1400s showing angels and decorative shields that once bore family coats of arms for local noble families.

The church is open daily and welcomes visitors to spend time in its peaceful interior facing westward. Keep in mind that regular services take place, which may affect access to certain areas during your visit.

A brass memorial shows Sir Ivo FitzWarin, a medieval soldier who fought in France and became the father-in-law of Dick Whittington, London's mayor. This connection reveals the historical ties between local noble families and England's capital.
