Holyhead Mountain Hut Circles

Twenty stone-built circular foundations spread across 8 hectares of natural terrace, featuring walls reaching one meter in height and diameters up to 8 meters.

Archaeological excavations between 1860 and 1982 revealed continuous human activity from the late third millennium BC through the first century AD.

The architectural remains demonstrate Celtic Iron Age construction methods, with rounded and rectangular structures indicating different residential and storage purposes.

The site remains open year-round except December 24-26 and January 1, with free admission and access through a stone stile entrance.

Each circular structure contains preserved stone features such as internal divisions, hearths, and built-in furniture including benches and storage basins.
