St. Michael's Mount, Tidal island parish in Cornwall, England
The Mount rises from Mount's Bay with a medieval castle and church standing at its summit, connected to Marazion by a granite causeway.
The site contains remnants of a Bronze Age trading port and served as a Benedictine monastery from the 12th to 16th centuries.
Local fishermen maintain centuries-old traditions of harvesting seafood from the waters surrounding the Mount throughout different seasons.
Visitors access the island by boat during high tide or walk across the causeway during low tide, with timing schedules posted daily.
The castle gardens grow Mediterranean plants at 50 degrees north latitude due to the warming effects of the Gulf Stream.
