Located in southeastern Minnesota, Mower County encompasses 712 square miles of agricultural land with low rolling hills reaching 1,440 feet above sea level.
The territorial legislature established Mower County on February 20, 1855, naming it after John Edward Mower, who served in the territorial legislative body.
The county population of 40,029 residents includes communities of White, African American, Asian, and Hispanic backgrounds, creating a diverse social fabric.
The Cedar River flows through the western section while Interstate 90, US Route 63, and Minnesota State Highway 16 provide transportation access across the region.
Mower County stands among only four counties in Minnesota without natural lakes, though Lake Louise State Park features an artificial water reservoir.
