Fort Tilden, Military fort in New York, USA
Fort Tilden is a former United States Army installation on the coast in the New York City borough of Queens.
The fort was established in 1917 to defend the western entrance to the Rockaway Inlet and served as an active military installation until 1974.
Today, Fort Tilden is a popular site for birdwatching and stargazing, and hosts various cultural events throughout the year.
It's part of the Gateway National Recreation Area and open to the public for recreational activities.
Fort Tilden houses the oldest continually operating community theater in the United States.
