Governor's Mansion Historic District
Governor's Mansion Historic District, Historic residential district in Little Rock, United States.
Governor's Mansion Historic District is a residential neighborhood in Little Rock containing over 470 buildings from different periods. The houses were built mainly between the 1880s and 1940s and display various styles including Victorian and Colonial Revival designs.
The neighborhood developed during Little Rock's economic growth after the Civil War, when wealthy residents built their homes here. The area gained protection as a historic district in 1978 and was later expanded to safeguard additional properties and structures.
The neighborhood reflects different architectural styles that show how families lived across generations. Queen Anne mansions and Craftsman homes shape the streetscape and reveal how wealthy households chose to build and decorate their houses.
The district is best explored on foot since the streets are tight and homes sit close together. Visitors should take their time walking and stop to observe the details of different houses and their yards.
The district is home to the official residence of the Arkansas Governor, located right within the historic neighborhood. This makes the location special since visitors can encounter a piece of the state's political history amid ordinary homes.
