World Trade Center cross, Religious monument in New York City
The World Trade Center cross, also known as the Ground Zero cross, is a group of steel beams found amidst the debris of the World Trade Center site in September 2001.
This cross became an icon of hope and comfort throughout the recovery effort after the September 11 attacks.
It has been compared to the 'Iwo Jima flag' and has become a symbol of spiritual recovery for the nation.
The cross was moved to its permanent location at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in 2014.
Despite controversy over religious symbols on public property, the cross remains part of the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
