Georg Goess barracks, Military barracks in Völkermarkter Vorstadt, Austria.
The Georg Goess barracks is a military facility in Klagenfurt located near the Ostbahnhof train station along Rosenbergstraße. The compound is enclosed by high walls and occupies a substantial portion of the Völkermarkter Vorstadt district.
The barracks were built between 1873 and 1875 as an artillery facility and underwent several name changes throughout their history. In October 2023, they were renamed to honor Oberst Georg Goëss.
The barracks house the Stabsbataillon 7 of the 7th Jäger Brigade and maintain strong connections with the local military community.
The facility is located at Rosenbergstraße 1-3 in Klagenfurt and is not open to the public as a protected military site. Visitors can view the outer walls from the street and observe the grounds from outside.
The facility bears the name of Oberst Georg Goëss, a relatively recent name for a structure over 150 years old. This 2023 renaming reflects a fresh recognition of local military history.
