Kennedy Bridge, Steel road bridge in Bonn, Germany
The Kennedy Bridge spans across the Rhine River with a length of 394 meters, connecting the central district of Bonn with the eastern district of Beuel.
Named after US President John F Kennedy in 1963, the bridge opened in 1949 as the first permanent Rhine crossing point in Bonn after World War II.
The bridge marks a meeting point between the university district and residential areas, supporting daily interactions between students, workers, and residents of both Rhine banks.
The Kennedy Bridge accommodates four traffic lanes, two bicycle paths, and pedestrian walkways, serving over 100,000 vehicles and numerous pedestrians each day.
During Rhine flood events, the bridge provides a strategic observation point for monitoring water levels and implementing city protection measures.
