Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum

The Suermondt-Ludwig Museum occupies the Villa Cassalette, a 19th-century city palace on Wilhelmstrasse, featuring extensive collections of medieval and baroque artworks.

Founded in 1883, the museum has accumulated over 300 paintings from the 17th century, including works by Rembrandt, Jan Boeckhorst, and Anthony van Dyck.

The museum contains the largest collection of southern Netherlandish sculptures in German museums, with 140 pieces crafted from alabaster, ivory, and silver.

Visitors under 21 years old receive free admission to explore both permanent collections and temporary exhibitions spread across multiple floors.

The museum displays 60 medieval paintings by artists like Joos van Cleve and Lucas van Leyden in its dedicated medieval art section.
