St. Marien, Aachen, Catholic church in Aachen, Germany
The modern St. Marien features an octagonal layout with an eight-sided bell tower that references the architectural style of its predecessor building.
The original St. Marien church, constructed between 1858 and 1863 in Neo-Gothic style, sustained severe damage during World War II and was replaced in 1981.
The church maintains elements from its predecessor, including a Pietà, an octagonal baptismal font, and Stations of the Cross created by Johannes Lange.
St. Marien serves the local parish community as part of the greater parish of Franziska von Aachen since 2010, located near Aachen's central station.
Pope Pius IX donated a large gilded statue of Mary that was positioned in the open spire of the original church's bell tower.
