Pulverturm, Medieval defense tower in Lindau, Germany
The cylindrical stone tower stands on the western edge of Lindau Island, featuring a conical roof and thick walls overlooking Lake Constance.
Built in 1508 as a defense structure, the tower changed its function to store gunpowder for the local militia at the end of the 18th century.
From 1898 to 1919, Mayor Heinrich Schützinger transformed the tower into a meeting place, recording over 2000 guest signatures in the Golden Book.
The tower now serves as an event venue with three floors, accommodating up to 40 people with modern facilities including a kitchen and technical equipment.
During renovation works in 1629, workers lowered the tent roof by two meters to reduce the target surface area against potential enemy attacks.
