Burg Campen, Medieval castle in Flechtorf, Germany
The castle stands on a plateau between two river branches of the Schunter, featuring stone foundation and half-timbered upper sections from the 16th century.
The first documentation of Burg Campen dates to 1279, when Dukes Heinrich and Albrecht captured 70 knights loyal to the Bishop of Hildesheim.
The castle grounds contained multiple structures including a cavalier house, gatehouse, pleasure garden, and prison, reflecting medieval German architectural traditions.
The castle measures approximately 80 by 100 meters and sits at an elevation of 83 meters above sea level in Lower Saxony.
The castle served as a training facility for the Hitler Youth in 1932, then transferred to Nazi Party ownership in 1937, before becoming state property after 1945.
