Tierpark Essehof, Zoo in Lehre, Germany.
Tierpark Essehof is a zoo in Lehre that presents around 260 animals from about 50 species in naturalistic enclosures. The facility spans roughly 10 hectares and is divided into zones representing different continents.
The zoo was opened in 1968 at Easter by Werner Beller as an initial venture. During the 1970s, it underwent expansion with new stalls and enclosures added to the property.
The park takes its name from a historic farmstead and reflects the rural character of the region. The layout with themed zones shows how different continents support their own animal worlds.
The grounds offer a coffee house, picnic areas, and scheduled animal feedings that give visitors a good rhythm for their visit. A petting area allows guests to feed certain animals with available food.
A water nature trail runs through the grounds and includes a 30-meter wooden bridge plus an underwater viewing window. This window sits about 3 meters below the water surface and gives visitors a rare look into aquatic worlds.
