Tvis Abbey, Medieval monastic ruins in Holstebro Municipality, Denmark
The foundations of Tvis Abbey stand on a small island between the Storå and Tvis Å rivers, south of Holstebro in Jutland.
Prince Buris Henriksson established Tvis Abbey in 1163 as a daughter house of Herrevad Abbey, with substantial property near Holstebro in Jutland.
The monastery operated under Cistercian traditions until 1547, when the Danish Reformation led to its closure and transformation into a parish church.
A memorial stone marks the former altar location in the cemetery, while walking paths connect the site to other historical landmarks in the area.
The original abbey church served the community until 1698, followed by a west wing replacement that remained until the construction of a new parish church in 1887.
