Kingo Houses

Kingo Houses is a residential complex of 60 L-shaped dwellings, each with its own courtyard, spread across 6.5 hectares of land. The houses are positioned among natural slopes, water features, and meadows that define the character of the area near Gurrevej road.

The complex was built between 1956 and 1958 by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, who adapted his original Swedish concept for this site. The project emerged during a period when new ideas about communal living were gaining ground in Scandinavia.

The houses blend traditional Danish farmhouse design with influences from Chinese and Islamic residential patterns, creating a community where residents share daily spaces. The shared courtyards and common grounds encourage neighbors to interact naturally throughout the year.

The site is accessible by car via Gurrevej and offers walking paths through the landscaped terrain for visitors to explore. Keep in mind that this is an active residential community, so visitors should be respectful of residents' privacy while enjoying the grounds.

Residents collectively maintain the surrounding landscape, including constructed hills and a lake, making this a rare example of shared land stewardship. This ongoing collective responsibility for common spaces remains unusual for modern residential developments and shapes how the community functions today.
