Eigtveds Pakhus, Historic warehouse in Copenhagen, Denmark
Eigtveds Pakhus is a large warehouse building standing by the water in Copenhagen's historic harbor district, built in the 1750s. Today it functions as a modern event venue with bright spaces and contemporary facilities while maintaining its original exterior appearance.
The building was designed by architect Nicolai Eigtved in 1750 and served for over two centuries as a warehouse for luxury goods from Asia. In 1976 the Danish government purchased the property and has used it for official events since then.
The ground floor once held a fine goods chamber where merchants displayed textiles, tea, spices, and porcelain imported by the Asiatisk Kompagni trading company. Visitors can still sense the importance of trade to the city's past when walking through these rooms.
The building sits directly along Copenhagen's harbor and is easily reached on foot from the city center. It has wheelchair accessible entrances, lifts, and adapted restrooms for all visitors.
The building was designed by one of Denmark's most important architects of the 1700s and shows rare examples of classic harbor architecture from that era. The blend of original facade and modern interior makes it a special place that connects two different time periods.
