Lytteposten ved Dueodde, Military observation tower in Dueodde, Denmark
Lytteposten ved Dueodde is a 70-meter concrete tower at the southern tip of Bornholm island, originally built to monitor radio communications across the Baltic Sea. The structure contains specialized technical equipment and offers views from the top across the island and surrounding waters.
The facility was built in 1961 and served the Danish military intelligence service as a listening post for NATO during the Cold War. It was decommissioned in 2012 when its military mission ended.
Today the tower operates as Bornholmertaarnet, an experience center where exhibitions explain how the Danish military intelligence service worked during the Cold War. Visitors learn about the role this location played in protecting NATO countries through daily operations.
Visitors can climb to the observation platform at the top of the tower to enjoy wide views across Bornholm and the Baltic Sea. It is best to check opening times in advance and dress appropriately, as conditions at the top can be windy.
The station could intercept radio signals from distant targets such as Czechoslovakia and was Denmark's most critical surveillance contribution to NATO. Today visitors can learn in the exhibition how listening technicians recorded those far-away communications.
