Viru Gate, Medieval city gate in Old Town, Estonia.
Two stone towers with pointed roofs stand at the entrance of Viru Street, marking the passage between modern Tallinn and the Old Town district.
Built as a defensive structure in the 14th century, the gate originally included additional fortifications that were removed in 1880 to accommodate horse-drawn trams.
The gate serves as a central meeting point in Tallinn, connecting the modern shopping district with the medieval streets of the UNESCO-listed Old Town.
Visitors can access the Old Town through this entrance, which leads to numerous restaurants, craft shops, and historical buildings along Viru Street.
The preserved twin towers represent two of the remaining 26 defense towers from an original network of 46 that protected medieval Tallinn.
