Coqueta

Coqueta is a bronze sculpture by Josep Granyer depicting a giraffe in a playful, reclining pose with its long neck arched and one leg raised. The piece stands on a stone pedestal along Rambla de Catalunya and is sized to be easily noticed by people walking nearby.

Created in the early 1970s, this sculpture was part of a local effort to preserve the character of Rambla de Catalunya against modernization plans. It was one of ten bronze animal sculptures installed in the area to celebrate community identity and creative spirit.

The name Coqueta means flirtatious or coquettish in Spanish, reflecting the sculpture's playful posture. It has become a beloved landmark where locals and visitors naturally pause to smile and take photographs.

The sculpture sits along Rambla de Catalunya, a popular pedestrian street lined with cafes and shops that is easy to access on foot. You can visit at any time to view it from all angles, as it stands on a fixed pedestal accessible from the street.

In 2003, this sculpture survived a daring theft attempt when criminals tried to remove it from its pedestal, but police recovered it within minutes. The incident reveals how much the sculpture is valued and protected by the local community.
