Island Davaar, Tidal island and lighthouse at Campbeltown Loch, Scotland
The white lighthouse tower rises 20 meters high on the northern tip of Davaar Island, directing ships through Campbeltown Loch with its powerful beam.
Engineers David and Thomas Stevenson constructed the maritime navigation structure in 1854, with an initial cost between 3,000 and 4,000 British pounds.
A life-size cave painting of the crucifixion, created by Archibald MacKinnon in 1887, remains inside one of the seven caves on the island.
Access to Davaar Island requires careful planning as the natural shingle causeway appears only during low tide periods from the mainland near Campbeltown.
The Northern Lighthouse Board in Edinburgh manages this automated beacon, which produces two white flashes every ten seconds visible for 23 nautical miles.
