St John's Lock, Navigation lock at River Thames, Gloucestershire, England.
St John's Lock marks the highest point of the River Thames at 76 meters above sea level, featuring a drop of less than one meter.
The Thames Navigation Commission constructed this stone lock in 1790 following the opening of the Thames and Severn Canal upstream in November 1789.
The Grade II listed statue of Father Thames, created by Raffaelle Monti in 1851 for the Crystal Palace Exhibition, stands outside the lock house.
Visitors can access the lock via the A417 road, with limited parking available along the entrance and additional spaces at the nearby pub.
The lock derives its name from a thirteenth-century priory dedicated to St John the Baptist that once stood in the surrounding area.
