St Peter's Church, Wolfhampcote

St Peter's Church is a Gothic structure in Wolfhampcote built from sandstone and limestone. The building has a three-bay nave with clerestory windows and is surrounded by several listed monuments in its churchyard.

The building began in 1201 with early stone construction and underwent major rebuilding in the 1400s. Those later works added clerestory windows and altered the roof structure fundamentally.

The church displays features from different periods that visitors notice while exploring inside. Stone benches from the 1300s and a baptismal font from the 1200s reveal the craftsmanship of generations.

The church sits in a rural setting and requires advance contact with the local community before visiting. Access and timing can vary depending on the season and local conditions.

The building stands as the last surviving part of an abandoned medieval village surrounded by earthwork mounds from the settlement. Around the site you can see old canal systems and traces of a former railway line.
