Complex of San Firenze, Church building in Santa Croce district, Florence, Italy.
The Complex of San Firenze displays elaborate Baroque architecture with symmetrical wings, grand Corinthian columns, marble sculptures depicting religious allegories, and richly decorated interiors featuring intricate stucco work completed between 1668 and 1673.
Construction began in 1645 following plans by architect Pier Francesco Silvani, with the oratory completed by 1648 and the church façade finished in 1715 by Ferdinando Ruggieri, commissioned by the Oratorians of Saint Philip Neri.
The complex houses significant artworks including frescoes by Matteo Bonechi depicting the Glory of San Filippo Neri, paintings by Carlo Maratta, and decorative elements created by renowned Florentine artists of the 17th and 18th centuries.
The church continues religious activities while the former seminary serves judicial purposes since 2015, and the oratory hosts cultural events and concerts, with the complex accessible to visitors exploring Florence's historical landmarks.
The building features a Music Room with exedras housing choir stalls, designed specifically to facilitate communal singing and joyful worship following the teachings of San Filippo Neri, emphasizing the importance of musical harmony in religious practices.
