Chapel in Agailės

The Chapel in Agailės is a brick structure nestled in a wooded area north of Kuršėnai, accessible via forest roads that wind through the countryside. Its interior provides a simple but complete setting for worship and reflection.

A wooden chapel was first built during the period of serfdom and later became a burial ground for those involved in 19th century uprisings. The current brick structure replaced an earlier building that was demolished in the Soviet era.

The chapel serves as a gathering place for two annual religious celebrations, with people coming together on Ascension Day and in September for a harvest thanksgiving. These events show how locals continue to use this place for their spiritual traditions.

The chapel is open year-round and visitors will find contact information inside if they need further assistance. A guest book allows people to leave messages and share their experience with others who visit.

A statue of the Virgin Mary was buried in trenches during Soviet times and later recovered and restored to its place. This figure stands as a tangible reminder of how people protected their faith through difficult periods.
