Mjøstårnet, Wooden skyscraper in Brumunddal, Norway
Mjøstårnet is a residential and commercial tower in Brumunddal constructed almost entirely from timber. The building rises 18 stories and houses apartments on its upper levels, while lower floors contain offices and hotel rooms supported by a wooden frame.
The tower was built between 2018 and March 2019 in just a few months. Its completion marked a new benchmark for contemporary timber construction in Scandinavia.
The building demonstrates Norwegian expertise in wood construction, reflecting the country's tradition of utilizing local forest resources for architectural innovation.
The tower stands in Brumunddal, about 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the facility where the timber components were prefabricated. Rapid assembly allowed builders to complete one floor per week, reducing overall construction time.
The top seven floors incorporate concrete reinforcement to limit movement during high winds. This mix of timber and concrete helps ensure stability at such heights.
