Собор Покрова Пресвятой Богородицы, Orthodox cathedral in Mineralnye Vody, Russia
Sobor Pokrova Presvyatoy Bogoroditsy, also known as Pokrov Cathedral, is an Orthodox cathedral in the center of Mineralnye Vody, Stavropol Krai, built in brick with nine domes. A bell tower carrying eight bells stands alongside the main building, making the complex easy to spot from across the town.
Construction began in 1992 after Metropolitan Gedeon consecrated the site, and the cathedral was officially dedicated in 1997. The project was part of a broader wave of church building that followed the end of the Soviet period in Russia.
The interior features a four-tier iconostasis made by craftsmen under Mikhail Sidorenko, and the frescoes covering the walls were painted by artists from Moscow following academic traditions. The combination of carved woodwork and painted surfaces gives the space a layered, carefully composed look.
The cathedral sits in the town center and is easy to reach on foot from the main streets. Visiting outside of service hours gives more freedom to look around inside, so it is worth checking when daily services are held before you go.
The cathedral holds the relics of Saint Theodosius of the Caucasus, which were transferred here in 1998 from another church in the region. Pilgrims travel from across the area specifically to venerate these remains, making the site a destination beyond Sunday worship.
