Soldiers' Monument, Civil War memorial at Worcester Common, Massachusetts
The granite Corinthian column features a bronze Victory goddess at its peak, with four bronze military statues representing different service branches at its base.
The monument, dedicated on July 15, 1874, commemorates 398 Worcester soldiers who lost their lives during the American Civil War.
Bronze plaques on the monument display the seals of Worcester, Massachusetts, and the United States, along with relief busts of President Lincoln and Governor Andrew.
Located at the intersection of Front and Church Streets, the monument maintains its position as a central gathering point for military ceremonies.
The structure's height decreased by four feet in 1969 when city renovations raised the ground level, burying part of its original granite base.
