Immaculate Conception Academy
Immaculate Conception Academy, Catholic girls' school in Davenport, Iowa.
The academy building stands as part of Palmer College of Chiropractic, featuring architectural elements designed by Victor Huot in 1884.
The Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary established Immaculate Conception Academy in 1859 on land donated by Judge G.C.R. Mitchell.
More than 4,000 female students graduated from the institution during its 99 years of operation, including artist Isabel Bloom.
The school merged with St. Ambrose Academy in 1958 to form Assumption High School, which continues to operate in Davenport.
The academy acquired its property through opportunities created by local bankruptcies during the financial Panic of 1857.
