Hamilton Pool
Hamilton Pool is a natural water feature in Travis County, Texas, created when an underground cave collapsed to form a deep, clear basin. Water cascades about 50 feet from cliffs above, feeding into the rounded pool surrounded by steep banks covered in plants and ferns.
The area served as a gathering place for Native Americans who valued the water and natural oasis. In the 19th century, farmers and travelers visited for water and the view, and it was eventually protected as a preserve managed by local authorities.
The name comes from the family that originally owned the land in this area. Today, it serves as a gathering place where people come to spend time with loved ones and connect with the natural landscape.
Visits require advance online reservation for one of two daily time slots to protect the environment and wildlife in the area. Bring all necessary supplies since there are no shops or amenities on site, and plan to pay the entrance fee in cash.
Behind the falling water sits a small cave called a grotto that is closed to visitors for safety due to falling rocks and instability. This hidden opening reveals how water and erosion shaped the landscape over time.
