Teleferico La garrucha, Tourist attraction in Serranías, Colombia
Teleférico La Garrucha is a small open-air cable car linking the town of Jardín to the rural area of Serranías, in Antioquia, Colombia. The cabin crosses over the La Volcana stream on its way up, connecting the town center to the hillside farms above.
The Garrucha was built decades ago to give the farming families of Serranías a direct link to the town of Jardín below. Over time it also became a draw for visitors, though it has never lost its original role as a supply route for the hillside farms.
The Garrucha is used by locals to carry coffee, plantains, and farm supplies up to the hillside community of Serranías. Visitors ride the same cable car as farmers, which gives the trip a feel of everyday life rather than a standard tourist activity.
The cable car runs regularly throughout the day at roughly half-hour intervals, so waits are short. There is a small shelter at the upper station where drinks and snacks are available.
On weekends, the Garrucha can stay in service until 11 pm if passengers are still waiting, which makes a nighttime ride over the lit town possible. This is something most visitors who come during the day do not expect.
