Clamouse Caves

Clamouse Caves is a limestone cave system in Saint-Jean-de-Fos featuring extensive underground passages filled with mineral deposits. Multiple chambers display stalactites, stalagmites, and calcite formations spread throughout the network.

The cave was discovered in 1945 and later developed as a public attraction. Since then it has served as a research location for studying cave formations and geological processes.

The cave forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage route connecting Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert through the Herault Valley gorges.

The cave can be visited through guided tours that occur regularly and lead through illuminated passages. The temperature inside the chambers remains consistently cool, so appropriate clothing is advisable.

The cave contains rare aragonite crystal formations that grow in multiple directions and create unusual patterns on the walls. These crystals defy gravity and form some of the most distinctive mineral structures found in European caves.
