Birštono apžvalgos bokštas, Birštono apžvalgos bokšto vieta
Birštono apžvalgos bokštas is an observation tower approximately 55 meters tall located in a protected natural area near Birštonas. The viewing platform at around 45 meters high offers views of the characteristic loops of the Nemunas river, surrounding forests, and the city landscape below. The structure features a metal framework with wooden cladding and triangular openings, with several rest stops distributed along the climb.
The tower location was selected in 1997 as part of a protection plan for the Nemunas landscape. Designed by architect Donatas Malinauskas, it was intended to help visitors understand the region better and see from the ground what was previously only visible from the air.
The tower stands in a protected natural area that holds special meaning for local visitors. From this viewpoint, people can see the distinctive loops of the Nemunas river, something that was once only possible from above and now accessible on foot.
The tower is accessible daily from early morning until evening and admission is free. The best times to visit are early morning or at sunset when fewer visitors are present and light conditions are more pleasant.
The tower offers a rare ground-level perspective of the Nemunas river's characteristic loops, previously visible mainly from hot air balloons or aircraft. This viewpoint allows visitors to understand and appreciate the natural landscape formation from an entirely new angle.
