Žiežmarių dvaras
Žiežmarių dvaras is a manor house with outbuildings located in the town of Žiežmariai in Lithuania, developed over centuries through successive owners. The complex contains a main residence built in the mid-19th century, farm structures, a mill, and grounds with formal landscaping including ponds, waterways, and wooded areas.
The estate was first mentioned in the 14th century as property of the Lithuanian Grand Duke, then passed to the Radvila family in the 16th century. Graf Benedikt Tiškevičius acquired it in 1841 and commissioned the construction of the current main building beginning in 1857 based on designs by an Italian architect.
The manor complex in Žiežmariai remains central to the town's identity and visual character today. Visitors can directly experience 19th-century material culture through the building layout, craftsmanship details, and spatial organization that reveal how the local gentry lived and worked.
The estate sits centrally within the town of Žiežmariai and is accessible on foot. The grounds and park are generally open to visitors, though advance inquiries are advised if you wish to view the interior of the main building.
The main building was designed by an Italian architect, an unusual choice for a rural Lithuanian estate in the 1850s. This international influence reveals how wealthy Lithuanian families kept pace with European architectural trends despite their provincial location.
