Løkken
Løkken is a coastal town on the North Sea in northwestern Denmark with wide, flat sandy beaches and rows of distinctive white beach huts. The town center sits behind a dune covered with marram grass and holds shops, cafés, and restaurants, while fishing boats return daily to the shore.
Løkken started as a small fishing village whose early residents sold beer and goods before it later developed into a seaside resort. The fishing tradition remains alive and shapes the character of the town today.
Life in Løkken centers on the sea and fishing. Fishermen bring their daily catch directly to the shore, and visitors can watch the activity or buy and enjoy freshly prepared fish.
The town is easy to explore on foot since streets are short and you can walk from beach to center in just minutes. During summer months it is wise to arrive early to find a good spot on the beach and bring sun protection and comfortable shoes for walking.
Not far away stands the 1900 Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse surrounded by a giant moving dune that shifts about 40 meters each year. The building was abandoned in 1968 and is slowly being swallowed by sand, showing nature's power over time.
