Skigebiet Katschberg
Skigebiet Katschberg is a winter sports area in the Austrian Alps with about 80 kilometers (50 miles) of groomed slopes for all skill levels. The terrain spreads across multiple sections with blue beginner runs, red intermediate slopes, black expert runs, and off-piste powder areas available throughout the resort.
The ski area developed over many decades as part of Austria's winter sports scene and has grown to support local tourism. Modernization continues steadily, with new lifts like the Almbahn improving access and shaping how visitors experience the mountain.
The name Katschberg derives from local mountain dialect and refers to the ridge's geography. In the huts and après-ski spots, visitors and locals gather to share meals and taste regional dishes like cheese bread and hearty soups that reflect alpine daily life.
The best way to arrive is by car or bus, with several parking areas near the ski lifts. To find a good parking spot during peak times, arriving early in the morning helps, as lots fill up as the day progresses.
The area offers night skiing sessions under the stars on select evenings, extending the mountain day in an unusual way. A special children's zone called Katschi's Children's World has its own lift, instructors, and play areas designed to introduce young visitors to skiing safely.
