Schwarzenberg Palace, Renaissance art museum at Hradčanské Square, Prague, Czech Republic
The black and white sgraffito decorations cover the entire exterior walls of this three-story Renaissance palace in a geometric pattern of diamonds and rectangles.
After a devastating fire in 1541 destroyed medieval houses, Johann Popel von Lobkowicz commissioned the construction of this palace, which was completed in 1567.
The National Gallery Prague exhibits its permanent collection of Old Masters within the palace halls, featuring European paintings from the Renaissance to Baroque periods.
The palace opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, with extended hours until 20:00 on the first Wednesday of each month.
The palace ceiling preserves original 1580 paintings depicting classical scenes from Greek mythology, including The Judgment of Paris and The Kidnap of Helen.
