Reliquary of St. Maurus, Medieval reliquary at Bečov nad Teplou Castle, Czech Republic
The St. Maurus Reliquary measures 142 centimeters in length, 42 centimeters in width, and 70 centimeters in height, decorated with precious stones and silver figures.
Created between 1225 and 1230 for the Benedictine monastery in Florennes, Belgium, to store the remains of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Maurus.
The reliquary features twelve relief panels, fourteen gilt silver statuettes, precious stones, semi-precious gems, antique cameos, filigree work, and enamels.
Visitors can explore the reliquary exhibition in the renovated Pluhov Palace at Bečov Castle, with entry tickets priced at 240 Czech crowns for adults.
The reliquary remained hidden under the castle chapel floor from 1945 until its discovery in 1985, requiring eleven years of restoration work.
