Hradisko u Obřan, Archaeological site at Obřany hillfort near Brno, Czech Republic

Hradisko u Obřan is an archaeological site on elevated terrain overlooking the Svitava River valley. The location spans a large area with fortification remains and shows signs of occupation across multiple periods.

The hillfort was built on a syenite promontory above the Svitava in the late Bronze Age, with settlement of the Podolí culture dated to the 9th–8th century BC; occupation began earlier, in the Velatice culture of the middle Bronze Age. It was used again in the Hallstatt period by the Horákov culture, in the La Tène period by the Celts, and in Roman and Migration-period times, spanning over 1300 years.

The name Hradisko refers to the fortified hilltop itself. Near the western section of the northern rampart lies a cremation cemetery where about 250 graves have been excavated, though its real extent is estimated at 2,000; the graves held several vessels, bronze ornaments, weapons and tools, with food for the deceased and sometimes an urn for the ashes.

The site is accessible via marked hiking trails from the Obřany district with informational panels at several locations. Sturdy footwear is recommended as the ground is uneven and paths can be slippery depending on the season.

A burial ground near the western section of the northern rampart has yielded about 250 excavated cremation graves, though its real extent is estimated at 2,000. Grave goods included several vessels, bronze ornaments, weapons and tools; some vessels served as urns, while in other graves the burnt bones were heaped on the pit floor.
