Saint Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia, Historical patron saint figure of Prague, Czech Republic
Saint Wenceslaus I served as the Duke of Bohemia from 921 to 935, establishing numerous churches and supporting German missionaries throughout the region.
Following conflicts with pagan nobles and his own brother Boleslav, Wenceslaus met his death at the entrance of a church in Stará Boleslav in 935.
The remains of Saint Wenceslaus rest in Saint Vitus Cathedral in Prague, drawing pilgrims who seek to honor this central figure of Czech heritage.
Visitors can explore multiple monuments dedicated to Saint Wenceslaus across Prague, including the prominent statue at Wenceslas Square and Viniční sloup.
The assassination of Saint Wenceslaus by his brother Boleslav transformed him into a symbol of Czech statehood, marked annually on September 28.
