Buford's Massacre Site, Revolutionary War battlefield in Lancaster County, United States

The 2-acre memorial site contains two monuments commemorating the Battle of Waxhaws, with the newer marker replacing a damaged original from 1860.

In May 1780, British Colonel Banastre Tarleton led 700 troops against Colonel Abraham Buford's regiment of 350 Virginians, resulting in numerous American casualties.

The site represents a turning point in the American Revolution, as reports of British forces attacking surrendering soldiers influenced colonial resistance in South Carolina.

Located along South Carolina Highway 522 near the Buford Community, this National Register of Historic Places site remains under private ownership.

Mrs. Andrew Jackson and her sons provided medical care to wounded soldiers following the battle, connecting future president Andrew Jackson to this location.
