Casa de la Vall, Manor house and former parliament in Andorra la Vella, Andorra

Casa de la Vall is a two-story sandstone manor house built on a rock formation in the old town of Andorra la Vella. The building features a rectangular layout and contains several rooms, including a hall with historic wall paintings and a chamber for important documents.

The Busquets family built this defensive manor house in 1580 to protect their interests. In 1702 it became the seat of the General Council and served as the center of governance for the country.

The building contains wall paintings from the 16th century and spaces where people gathered to discuss community matters and make decisions together. These rooms show how the local population once organized their public life and shared governance.

The building can be visited with guided tours or audio guides that provide access to the historic rooms inside. It is worth taking time to explore the interior carefully to appreciate the architectural details and furnishings.

The building contains a special chamber that requires seven different keys to unlock, with each key held by a different parish in the country. This system demonstrates how the various regions of Andorra worked together to protect the nation's most important documents.
